There is a magical place outside of Dayton where there are fishing lakes and a running river!
You will definitely want a 4-Wheel Drive vehicle to get there, and if you don't make it all the way to the trailhead because you're distracted by lakes, rivers, or anything else, I won't blame you. If you do make it to the trailhead, there is an 8 mile round trip hike (full disclosure, I haven't done it all) with a 500 ft elevation gain (flat, pretty, and great). There isn't a ton of water at the beginning, but you can find some if you need it.
Directions: drive to Dayton on Hwy 12. Take a right on Patit Road (roughly across from Patit Creek restaurant after downtown Dayton)... follow the cut out horse and man statue things. Head east on Patit Road for 14 miles. Then turn left on Hartsock Grade and follow that for 4 miles (through a windfarm - it's BEAUTIFUL). It jogs a bit but take a right (south) on onto Tucannon River Rd (which becomes FR-47). At 13.2 miles, bear left onto FR-4712 and continue to the trailhead in 4.7 miles.
You will want to take a NW Forest Pass or other national lands pass as well as a Washington State Parks pass. The road fluctuates between state and national lands.
