Umatilla Rim Trail

Guest post by the illustrious Lish Riley

The most popular section of the Umatilla Rim trail runs roughly 10+ miles along the Umatilla Rim, which looks west/southwest into the Umatilla National Forest drainage towards Pendleton.  You can park at either end of the trailhead and do an out and back, or you can make it a loop by taking the trail one way, and taking the road back to your car where you started.

Driving Directions:
Coming from Walla Walla, the closest trailhead is the one at Horseshoe Prairie. Make a right onto the gravel road across from the exit of the Andes Prairie snowpark loop. Drive about 200 yards and make the first right. Park in the gravel lot here. The trail starts here.

Riding Directions:
Option 1: After roughly 10 miles this trail will make a stop at the Ninemile Trail Head which is probably where most folks stop. You can either ride the trail back and have an awesome 2-3 hour 20 mile ride and end back at your car at the Horseshoe Prairie TH,

Option 2: At the Ninemile Trailhead, turn left onto summit road. It's about 4-5 miles back to the highway. Turn left on the highway, and the Andes snow park will be on your right in about 1/4 mile, or continue another 200 yards and turn left onto the gravel road again back to the Horseshoe Prairie parking area.

Option 3: Drive to the ninemile trail head and start from there and do either an out and back on the trail, or take the road back the roughly 5+ miles to your car at nine mile TH.
