McDougal Road, Umatilla NF

Beautiful views, wide open spaces, trails and game paths to explore... The trail heads at the end of the road are Lick Creek and Grouse Mountain, but the current signage (as of 9/15) does not allow for much delineation between them. In other words, this is probably not the trailhead for a Type A personality.

However, if you like adventure and knowing where your car is in relation to the path but not where you necessarily are in relation to the map, this trail is perfect for you! It begins at a trail head (that is marked!) and you alternate for a while between sunny ridge line and shadier forest canopies while going down the ridge. After a while, you'll come to a fork where a sign says "Umatilla River <-- ". We follows the fork to the right/straight and summited a hill (maybe grouse mountain). It was beautiful and fun. Definitely a place in general where y'all should try it out.

This is all about 3 miles off McDougall Camp Road (forest road 3715) in the Umatilla National Forest. McDougall is a south turn (right if you're coming from Walla Walla) before you get to tollgate off highway 204 (on the way to Jubilee Lake or Woodward Campground).

More info can be found here: http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/umatilla/recarea/?recid=56959 I would recommend fall for adventure time.
